We’re sending well wishes and prayers to hip-hop The Lady of Rage, real name Robin Yvette Allen, who has reportedly been hospitalized.
Rapper Yo-Yo, real name Yolanda Whitaker, took to Instagram to share a message with fans and ask for prayers on behalf of Allen. “Say a prayer for my big sis of HipHop @theladyofrage_ We love you baby #stronger #together,” Yo-Yo wrote.
Details of Allen’s hospitalization have not been released.
The Lady of Rage has been widely described as one of the most skillful female MCs in hip-hop and discusses her technique in Paul Edwards’ How to Rap: The Art and Science of the Hip-Hop MC. She was discovered by Dr. Dre in 1991 before signing to Death Row Records. She appears on several tracks from Dre’s 1992 classic The Chronic.
Her debut album, Necessary Roughness, dropped in 1997 and the MC later left Death Row to sign with Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle Records. Allen has also made a number of film and television appearances, including Next Friday, The Steve Harvey Show, and Kenan & Kel.
We wish the hip-hop legend a speedy recovery.
