According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film did well in major cities like New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta, with men making up 51% of the audience.
The biopic about the Tuskegee Airmen (An African-American unit) became an even bigger topic of conversation last week when Tyler Perry posted an open letter on his website endorsing the film. ”I think we should pull together and get behind this movie,” he wrote. “Not just African Americans, but all of us.”
Perry highlighted how difficult it is to get all-Black movies made and applauded the film’s director, Anthony Hemingway and the film’s producer, George Lucas — who put up his own money to get it completed.
The sci-fi thriller, “Underworld Awakening,” starring Michael Ealy, was first.
