The former South African president is in critical condition, reports CNN.
President Jacob Zuma released a statement regarding the ill leader’s condition. “The doctors are doing everything possible to get his condition to improve and are ensuring that Madiba is well-looked after and is comfortable,” said the president in a statement.
It appears as if Mandela’s condition has worsened in the last 24 hours. Just yesterday, Zuma’s office said that Mandela’s condition was unchanged. Days before that reports were circulating that Mandela was responding to treatment for a recurring lung infection.
Mandela has been hospitalized since June 8th. He was released from the hospital on April 6th after a 10-day stay for pneumonia. In December, Mandela was hospitalized for a lung infection and to have gallstones removed.
The public last saw Mandela at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
