A Florida resort is apologizing to a Black doctor and her family after a White woman was caught on video terrorizing and screaming the N-word at them.
Dr. Covey Banks posted a video of the incident that took place late last month at the Omni Orlando Resort. In the post, Banks says a White woman told her own daughter to pee in the pool. When Banks and her family pointed out a bathroom the girl could use, the White woman’s family responded by telling their children to splash water on Banks.
The other family escalated things further when they started calling Banks’ family “black b———.”
“Come on and leave this n——- alone,” the woman says at one point.
“That don’t hurt me neither, sweetheart,” Banks can be heard saying. “That just shows your ignorance. That name don’t bother me.”
At one point, Clampbett even pushes one of Banks’ family members and flicks at the phone Banks was using to record.
Banks says that the hotel security was not helpful, so she had to call the local police department. The officers then told her that if she pressed charges against the woman they would also have to arrest her because the other woman said she had been scratched.
“She screams, curses, yells racial slurs, obviously under the influence, swings at my niece but she got a scratch on her arm for being stopped and we’ll BOTH be charged?!” Banks wrote.
The hotel has since apologized.
“An incident occurred at our resort in Orlando last weekend,” Omni Hotels & Resorts President Peter Strebel said in a statement to the Orlando Sentinel. “Two families staying with us got into a dispute and one family used racial slurs. The use of such language is completely unacceptable and it will not be tolerated at our hotels and resorts. We are sorry this horrible event occurred at one of our properties and I have personally apologized to Dr. Banks.”
