There will be no hate crime charges brought against Sean Christopher Urbanski in the murder of 23-year-old Richard Collins III in College Park, MD.
As reported by NBC News, Collins III was three days away from graduation when he was fatally stabbed at a campus bus stop by Urbanski in an unprovoked attack. The gruesome killing was caught on camera by security cameras mounted near the bus stop where Collins was stabbed.
Prince George County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said there currently wasn’t enough evidence to bring up hate charges. Alsobrooks added that her office intends to seek a life without parole sentence. “This was an unprovoked attack and we believe that Mr. Urbanski should face the highest possible penalty allowed by state law for his actions,” she said.
The investigation is ongoing.
Reportedly, Urbanski was a student at the University of Maryland and a member of a white supremacist Facebook group called “Alt-Reich Nation.” Collins had completed his ROTC training and was recently commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was expected to join the intelligence division.
