Hours after performing at Sweden’s Peace and Love concert, where some concertgoers reported her set as “shaky,” the “Where Have You Been” singer shared that her grandmother had passed and posted intimate photos of her. “Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you,” she tweeted.
“#grangrandolly taught me,” she wrote for the photo below.
Rihanna’s fans are all too familiar with her granDolly and her grandfather, Lionel, both of whom have been a constant source of support for the Bajan beauty. Recently, she paid her grandparents a visit at their Brooklyn apartment for Dolly’s birthday party. Posting over 21 photos of the party, she even devoted some time to cook dinner and shared a glass of wine with them. Though raised in the Barbados, the singer would often spend summers with her grandparents at their Brooklyn home.
Fans soon flooded Rihanna with well-wishes. Even her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown soon chimed in, tweeting, “Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN! RIP.”
Brown’s mother Joyce Hawkins also shared her condolences. “@rihanna Angel may God be with you and your family in your time of sorrow. Love you angel,” she wrote.
Rihanna’s response was a simple, heartfelt message: “Thank you! Love u mama.”
