Billionaire and former Goldman Sachs banker, Robert F. Smith, has been elected chairman of Carnegie Hall’s board of trustees. The appointment is a historic moment in the concert hall’s history because Smith is the first African-American to be appointed chairman.
Smith joined the board in 2013 and donated $1 million to the hall’s 125th anniversary gala last month.

Carnegie’s new chairman stated that he was honored and humbled by the new position.
