The road to recovery for Robin Roberts hasn’t been easy. Last Thursday she moved up her exit date from Good Morning America to be home with her ailing mother, Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts, who passed away the next day. Today, Roberts tweeted that she’s back at home and ready for the next phase.
“Back home in NYC,” she tweeted. “Will rest a few days. Doctor’s orders to put on a lil weight… that’s a first. Transplant now scheduled for next week. Onward.”
Roberts, a breast cancer survivor, will receive a bone marrow transplant byway of her sister, Sally. Before heading off air last Thursday, the beloved anchor told America “It’s rare to have MDS and mine was because of complications from the breast cancer treatment. I am very blessed. Forty percent of Americans can’t even take a sick day, and here I know that I’m going to have a job when I come back.”
She’s well aware the road ahead won’t be easy but she’s ready to fight the good fight. “I know the journey ahead will not be easy, but I’m going to focus on all these gifts.”
It’s not clear when Roberts will return to hosting, but in the meantime, ABC asked a few outstanding stars to fill her bigs shoes including Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Kelly Ripa and Oprah Winfrey.
Get well soon Robin!
