At last night’s Billboard Music Awards, Robin Thicke took advantage of his camera time to make a public plea for estranged wife Paula Patton’s affection – first with a shout out followed by a new song.
Thicke won the Billboard award for Top R&B song for his smash hit “Blurred Lines” and during his acceptance speech he thanked his wife for her “love and support and putting up with me for all these years.”
For his big performance, shortly afterward, Thicke debuted his new song “Get Her Back,” which he says he wrote just for his estranged wife. The couple separated in a shocking split earlier this year.
“I gotta make it right, make it right….All I wanna do is get you back tonight,” sang Thicke, in what was one of his most emotional performances in years. “I miss you, I miss you so much baby. I just want you to come back home.”
Fans shared mixed reactions on Twitter, debating whether or not his intentions were genuine or more for publicity – and whether a song is enough to fix a broken marriage.
Unlike her husband, since their split went public, Patton has remained virtually silent on social media and hasn’t spoken out in any interviews. She even deleted her Instagram account after press outlets began speculating whether her last messages were a response to the seperation.
