Today, Rodney King’s autopsy report was released and revealed several substances in his system at the time of his accidental drowning. According to CNN, King was under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, marijuana and PCP.
King, who is best known as the victim of a 1991 LAPD beating, was found dead on June 17. His fiancée, Cynthia Kelly, discovered his body at the bottom of the swimming pool at their Rialto, Calif. home. He was 47.
“He was in a state of drug and alcohol induced delirium at the time of the terminal event and either fell or jumped into the swimming pool,” said the autopsy report released by the San Bernardino County coroner. The report also revealed King suffered from a heart condition, which led him to a cardiac arrhythmia.
King was buried at Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills cemetery weeks later. At the time of his death, good friend Rev. Al Sharpton said, “People should not be judged by the mistakes they make, but how they rise above them. Rodney had risen above his mistakes. He never mocked anyone – not the police, not the justice system, not anyone. He became a symbol of forgiveness.”
