Celebrity hairstylist Amoy Pitters is responsible for the sexy styles of some of Hollywood’s hottest stars, including Kerry Washington, Nia Long, Ciara and Joy Bryant. Now, the jetsetting diva is capitalizing on her expertise and A-list clientele with a new Manhattan salon, Amoy Couture Hair. Here, we caught up with her to get the scoop on the new space and her fabulous new product line.

How long have you been working in the hair industry? When did you get your start? AMOY PITTERS: I got my start a decade ago at the fashion shows in Paris, which exposed me to a wider range of clients. I started styling models, then designers and soon celebrities…along with my everyday clients! I booked my first fashion show in Paris, with the Christian Dior couture collection in January 1998. There, I was asked to style designer John Galliano’s own hair for his final bow. Soon, he began requesting me as a personal hairstylist. Donatella Versace was next!
ESSENCE.COM: What inspired you to open your new salon in NY? PITTERS: Opening Amoy Couture Hair has always been a dream of mine! I started with a smaller space in New York City’s East Village and was ready to expand beyond being a “Best Kept Secret.” I want to educate women on how take better care of their hair. Hair is the ultimate accessory, everything else you wear is second– if you’re hair is beautiful, you’ll feel great, no matter what.
ESSENCE.COM: Absolutely! So, what are some of the special features about your salon that set it apart from the rest? PITTERS: It’s truly a luxurious experience! Inside, it’s a chic, intimately-arranged space where everyone’s treated like a celeb. Each stylist works personally to perfect his/her client’s look from start-to-finish. We also offer a special private area where shy VIPs can opt to have their hair styled away from the rest of the salon.
ESSENCE.COM: We hear you’re launching a new product line, too! PITTERS: The Amoy Couture Hair product line will include clip-on hair extensions that are 100% human hair. They’re available in a range of colors but they are also totally customizable. The extensions allow clients to change their look in an instant–from short-to-long, highlights, bangs, etc.–without a need to be committed to a full weave; it’s a true accessory! The product line also includes a Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave-In Serum and Curling Balms, which are perfect for taking care of both extensions and natural hair.
