Hairstylist Tymothe Wallace has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood—Brandy, Chrisette Michelle, Nene Leakes just to name a few. We caught up with the star stylist to get his tips on rocking the hottest trends, selecting extensions and how to find a hairstyle that’s just right for you.
“I love what I do and I treat every client the same, whether it’s a celebrity or not,” says Wallace. “Find a stylist that specializes in the look you’re trying to achieve. You may need a stylist that has a lot of knowledge about hair extensions. A lot of stylists are good but not all of them are good in doing hair extensions.”
“When it comes to trends, you should do what works for you. Trends come and go and if you try to keep up with trends you can miss out on looking your best. I would say find what best suits you, your lifestyle, and your facial structure,” says Wallace.
“When something is a good fit for your face, you’ll just see it,” advises Wallace. “If you decide to cut your hair, you have to look at your cheekbones, forehead, hairline. Play up on your best features. If you have nice eyes, show them off or accentuate your cheekbones.”
“Extensions are a very convenient option. If you have a busy schedule and you’re wearing quality extensions, you can just get up and go and not worry about your hair,” says Wallace. “Make sure that your extensions are done properly so that you can perserve the integrity of your own hair. You want to make sure your own hair stays healthy under your weave.”
“I recommend Extensions Plus in LA. They are amazing. They can customize any color and the wefts by blending hair textures. The price point is higher, but the quality and longevity of the hair is superb. I would also recommend Jace Beauty. You can order different textures, lusters, and the variety is amazing. True Indian Hair also has so many different textures of hair for great quality.”
“The cut is the foundation of any hairstyle. If the haircut isn’t right, nothing is right. With a great haircut you can achieve so many different styles. You can take a half an inch from a haircut and it will make a big difference,” says Wallace.
