Poet Saul Williams has been cast as the lead in Holla If Ya Hear Me, the Broadway-bound musical inspired by and set to the music of late rapper, Tupac Shakur.
Williams, known for his reoccurring role on Girlfriends and 1998 film Slam, is joined by a cast of seasoned Broadway actors and newcomers, including All My Children star Tonya Pinkins, John Jelks, After Midnight’s Christopher Jackson, Ben Thompson, Motown: The Musical star Saycon Sengbloh, Dyllon Burnside and Joshua Boone. The production is led by veteran Broadway director Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun, The Mountaintop).
The musical is described as “a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope.” Previews begin May 29 at Broadway’s Palace Theater and opening night is set for June 19.
