The “Greatest Homecoming On Earth” title may belong to FAMU this year. In support of graduate and Florida gubernatorial hopeful, Andrew Gillum, the Tallahassee based HBCU threw the pep rally of all pep rallies to end Gillum’s “Bring It Home” tour.In attendance for the student meets star-studded event, were Sean “Diddy” Combs, DJ Khaled, political analyst Angela Rye, comedic actress Tiffany Haddish, Christian Combs, Monica and more. The concert, that kicked off at midnight, November 6th, was billed as a celebration, but also an opportunity for Gillum and guests to talk to students about the importance of voting.“It’s not just because he’s Black. It’s because he’s the best man for the job” Combs said of his support for the Democratic candidate in an endorsement video. “He’s running a campaign for the people. I’ve spoken with him at length. I believe in him, his ideas, his focus, what he stands for.”Although Gillum’s opponent, Ron DeSantis, calls his celebrity backing a “distraction,” Gillum has welcomed the help of Hollywood heavyweights with open arms. Common, Grant Hill, Gabrielle Union and Rihanna are among the growing list of notables who have expressed their support for the current mayor of Tallahassee. According to the latest NBC News/Marist poll numbers, Gillum is up four points among likely voters. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, he told the crowd gathered,“The next time we share the same air, the next time we get to exchange brotherly and sisterly love, the next time we get to enjoy The Marching 100, I won’t be greeting you as the mayor of Tallahassee.” Polls in Florida close tonight at 7 and 8 p.m. depending on polling location.
