Serena Williams’ 7th Wimbledon title earlier today came right on time.
Being watched over by Beyonce and Jay-Z from her family’s box, the tennis champ beat Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 to win her 22nd grand slam. The win ties her with Steffi Graf for the most major championship wins ever for a woman.
Williams proudly held her trophy above her head, after raising her fist in Black power solidarity given the police shootings this week.
Earlier this week, she was asked by a reporter whether she considered herself the greatest female athlete of all time. Her answer:
“I prefer the words ‘one of the greatest athletes of all time’”.
“I would like to see people, the public, the press, other athletes in general, just realise and respect women for who they are and what we are and what we do.”
We raise our fists with you ‘Rena. Congratulations.
