Serena Williams has a new commercial that’s beaming with girl power.
On Monday, the tennis champion debuted a new ad with Gatorade that encourages young women to pursue their athletic interests despite adversity.
As the sports drink brand notes, girls drop out of sports at 1.5 times the rate of boys by age 14. Yet those who stay in the game are healthier, happier and more successful later in life.
Williams’ video is a part of their “Sisters in Sweat” campaign to promote Gatorade’s new scripted series in partnership with AwesomenessTV, which follows a girls’ high school lacrosse team. The first episode of the six-episode series launches on Wednesday, November 22.
Last Thursday, Williams married her longtime love, Alexis Ohanian Jr. in a lavish New Orleans ceremony. Guests included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, La La Anthony, Kim Kardashian and Eva Longoria. As wedding favors, the couple gifted tennis trophies to resemble the many Williams has won throughout her prolific career.
UPDATE: An earlier version stated that Williams was holding her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. An update was made as Williams was not holding her actual child in the commercial. “While Serena intended to have Olympia make her screen debut as part of this film, her daughter was under the weather and unable to be on set, but the sentiment remains the same,” a Gatorade spokeswoman said in a statement.
