Sharon Jones’ health is on the mend.
The front-woman for Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings revealed last week that she was diagnosed with bile-duct cancer. According to her Twitter account, she underwent surgery days ago and is recovering well.
“Out of surgery, and I am feeling better than expected,” Jones, 57, tweeted. “The nurses at the hospital are taking care of me and I am feeling so grateful.”
In an effort to show her good spirit, Jones joked: “Tubes in my throat, tubes in my nose, tubes in my stomach, tubes in my—I’m all tubed up!”
The Georgia native discussed the details of her diagnosis in a post on her website. Jones shared that doctors caught the tumor in the early stages. As a result, she was forced to cancel all upcoming appearances as well as delay the release of the group’s upcoming album.
“Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable,” she wrote. “I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover. I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want.”
