Sheila E. is opening up about her relationship with one-time fiancé Prince and rumors of drug use. On Monday, the world-renowned drummer appeared on the season 5 premiere of Larry King Now where she also discussed Prince’s overdose.
Asked if she knew about Prince’s use of pain medication, she replied, “Not necessarily. I’ve never even seen him take an aspirin or a Tylenol.”
“I’ve never seen him take anything,” she added.
She also shared that she almost didn’t go through with the BET Awards’ Prince tribute in which she performed.
“When I said yes to BET, I reluctantly said yes because it was too close to after him passing, and I didn’t think I’d be able to do it.”
At the awards show, Sheila E. performed a 10-minute medley of Prince hits and their collaborations.

“At that time I couldn’t look at a picture of him; I couldn’t listen to his music. Anytime anyone said anything and ‘how are you doing?’ I’d just start crying. It was just very emotional.”
Prince died in April after accidentally overdosing on the pain medication, Fentanyl.
