The news comes just three weeks after the show began. Shepherd, who was brought to tears said, “Thank you for letting me live a dream that I’ve always had.”
In addition to fulfilling her dream, she wanted to teach her son, Jeffery, a valuable life lesson. “I want to show my son, you take risks and that way you’ll never have to sit in the corner and watch everyone else take a risk,” she told ESSENCE.com “I refuse to be in the corner instead of taking a chance and hating people. I’m going to take a chance even though it’s scary!”
When asked what she would do if she won, she happily replied, “Cry! [Laughs] Because I know how much work I’ve been putting into this and this is something I really wanted to do.”
Only time will tell if Gladys Knight, Jaleel White and David Driver have what it takes to win the mirror ball trophy.
