Olympic darling Simone Biles is closing out the year with yet another notable accomplishment under her belt.
The 19-year-old gymnast took the sports world by storm this year with her history-making performance at the Olympics in Rio and all of her hard work has now earned her the title of AP Female Athlete of The Year.
The Associated Press reports that Biles received a total of 39 votes from editors and news directors out of a possible 59 to earn the honor. The talented teen beat out a host of other accomplished female athletes, including Olympic swim champion Katie Ladecky and decorated tennis great Serena Williams.

Her multiple wins at the Olympic games in Rio this summer brought her total number of Olympic and World Championship medals to 19, making her the most decorated American gymnast in history. Among her countless accomplishments at the Games, Biles set a record for the most gold medals in women’s gymnastics at a single Games and finished as the 2016 Olympic individual all around gold medalist.
Biles is the fifth gymnast to be named AP Female Athlete of the Year and joins LeBron James, who was also named 2016 AP Male Athlete of the Year.
