They’ve got jokes! Tons of them.
Comedienne Agunda Okeyo has assembled some of her favorite fellow comics for the “Sisters of Comedy” showcase at the legendary Caroline’s this Wednesday, Nov. 18.
The monthly showcase, which highlights dynamic comediennes of color, aims to celebrate the humor Black women posses and share in the collective joy, power, and range found in laughter. This month’s special guest is image activist Michaela Angela Davis who will be speaking on the revolutionary power of laughter.

Okeyo tells ESSENCE she chose Davis because she wanted “someone who [was] a public woman who speaks, writes, with a sense of humor, that likes to tell stories who can come on and speak about why laughter and humor is critical to social change.”
Also performing will be Chloe Hilliard (NBC’s Last Comic Standing), Erin Jackson (The Ellen DeGeneres Show ), Ndidi Oriji (Comedy Diaspora), Hadiyah Robinson (Nightly Show w/ Larry Wilmore), and Michelle Buteau (Comedy Central Half Hour).
“There should be a really top-notch comedy showcase that really focuses on featuring Black women,” Okeyo said.
