While many people were excited to see last night’s premiere of the updated Roots miniseries, there was one person who definitely didn’t tune in.
In a rant posted to Instagram, Snoop Dogg blasted Roots and 12 Years A Slave, saying, “They’re just gonna keep beating that s–t into our heads as to how they did us, huh?”
The rapper urged fans to boycott the miniseries and proposed that filmmakers focus on what’s going on today.

LeVar Burton, who played Kunte Kinte in the original Roots and acted as a co-executive producer on the remake, told USA TODAY, “We are clearly engaged in the conversation in America and it’s one where everybody needs to be involved. If you are living in America right now, then the story of slavery is relevant to you, because it’s shaped the country and the culture in which you live, whether you want to admit that or not.”
