When #BlackGirlMagic meets #BlackGirlMagic we all win, but 15-year-old Cori Gauff truly wowed the crowd at Wimbledon on Monday when she defeated tennis star Venus Williams in straight sets.
According to Time, the teen, who goes by “Coco,” is the youngest player to qualify for the prestigious tennis tournament and still managed to beat Williams, ranked No. 44, 6-4 6-4.
“This is the first time I ever cried after winning a match,” Gauff told the BBC after her win, according to Time. “I never thought this would happen. I don’t know how to explain it. I’m literally living my dream. Not many people get to say that.”
Gauff’s win also made her the youngest woman to win a Wimbledon match since 1991, aka, before she was even born.
Of course, this is not the teen’s first time smashing records, which means she was already in the eyes of the public for a few years now. At only 13 she became the youngest player to get to the U.S. Open girl’s final. This past year she was the youngest girl to win a qualifying match in the French Open.
Since qualifying for Wimbledon, Gauff had dreamed of playing against her idols, Venus and Serena Williams, whom her family and coaches say helped pave the way for her.
After defeating Venus Williams, she said she told the star, “Thank you for everything you’ve done.”
“When we shook hands, she told me congratulations and to keep going and good luck,” Gauff told BBC. “I said, ‘Thank you for everything you’ve done.’ I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her.’ ”
