A Los Angeles judge won’t stop the Sunday premiere of Lifetime network’s remake of the film, Steel Magnolias, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The TV movie — starring ESSENCE’s October cover star Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia and daughter Condola Rashad, and Adepero Oduye — came under fire this week from an executive producer of the 1989 original, who filed a lawsuit to block Lifetime’s scheduled air date.
Victoria L. White claims that the movie was made without her permission and argues that no agreements have been made concerning the rights to the classic tearjerker. White is demanding royalties and a share of the profits from this highly anticipated remake and, on Monday, asked the courts to halt its release until a deal had been settled.
This afternoon, Lifetime confirmed that the suit has been denied and the show will go on.
