Nothing makes a mother more proud than to see her children flourish and Stephen Curry’s mother has plenty to be proud of in her son, who will most likely be named this year’s NBA MVP for the second year in a row.
Sonya Curry, the wife of former NBA star Dell Curry, says the real celebration for her is in knowing that the spirit of determination she passed on to her children has played a vital role in carrying them to the top.

Speaking with ESPN’s Sage Steele, Sonya spoke specifically on what she feels she’s passed down to her son Steph.
“I always try to claim his tenacity and his determination never to give up and to just keep working at it. Work, work, work.”

Fighting back tears as Steele asked what she’s most proud of, Sonya gave a reply most mothers can certainly identify with. “I would hope that they would say that I dared to parent them,” she replied.
While Steph’s rise in the NBA has been an exciting one for Sonya and the Curry family, even she admits that what he’s been able to achieve is still beyond anything they could have predicted.
“No way would we have ever been able to write this script or even expected this,” she says. “We thought, you know, if he got to the NBA, great. But never could we have imagined this.”
