The Steve Harvey Morning Show has proven that itโs a force to be reckoned with amongst daytime talk shows, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, some industry players attribute the hostโs success to his race.
This comes as no surprise to the comedian turned host who believes his success has driven the industry to seek more African American hosts and actors as a way to increase viewership; only to later weed them out as the show grows in popularity.
โAs they build the network and get more eyeballs, they slowly start phasing them out,โ Harvey told The Hollywood Reporter.
โHollywood is more racist than America is. They put things on TV that they think the masses will like. The masses have changed. The election of President Obama should prove that and television should look entirely different. Kerry Washington should not be the first African-American female to head up a drama series in 40 years. In 40 years! Thatโs crazy!โ
Harvey has no intention of letting critics bring him down, saying: โMy show is not an African-American show. Iโm not going to let them put me in a box and pigeonhole me.โ
