Steve Harvey wants to clear the air once and for all on last month’s Miss Universe faux pas.
In case you somehow missed it, Harvey made international headlines last month when he crowned the wrong winner while hosting the annual Miss Universe pageant. Harvey’s flub resulted in criticisms in literally dozens of languages with many suggesting that the mistake was a publicity stunt.
However, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Harvey took to his radio show yesterday morning to vehemently deny the publicity stunt rumors.

“Why the hell would I do that?” he said. “I’m already famous. Do you really think I wanted to be famous like this?”
Though he went on to claim that the teleprompter was malfunctioning, he ultimately took responsibility for the blunder and did what he had to do in walking back on stage and crowning the correct victor.
“All I hear is confusion backstage,” he said, recalling the moment after accidentally crowned Miss Colombia. “I’m standing there in the wing. I got a guy in my ear going, ‘We got to do something.’ I had to walk out there and do what I thought was the right thing.”
