Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is in the hospital after fracturing three ribs from a fall at the court.
According to the court, the 85-year-old justice was taken to a local hospital in Washington D.C. early Thursday morning after experiencing pain throughout the night. She fell while in her office at the court the evening before. Tests showed that she had fractured three ribs. Her time in the hospital meant that Ginsburg, the court’s oldest judge and leader of its liberal wing, would miss the courtroom ceremony welcoming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court ranks, USA Today reports. “The event attracted President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump, all other Supreme Court justices and leaders of Washington’s legal community,” USA Today said. Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court by Congress last month after a controversial hearing. Ginsburg has served for 25 years after being appointed by former President Bill Clinton in 1993.
