A 16-year-old Detroit girl is still in the ICU after her next-door neighbor allegedly shot her during an altercation over loud music coming from a vehicle.
According to Fox2Detroit, the incident began at around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, when Shonta Hines and her 16-year-old daughter Taea were trying to sleep.
After being kept awake by loud music coming from a car stereo, both mother and daughter went to confront the person to ask them to keep it down.
“The girl is outside the car with her jacket and her shoes off coming at me like she wants to fight,” Shonta Hines told the news station.
As the altercation escalated, other people got involved in the fray, which is when Taea was shot.
“In the process, I hear a gunshot. Then I hear my roommate say ‘oh he’s got a gun.'” Hines explained. “Then I hear two to three more gunshots and then I hear my daughter say ‘I think I got hit.'”
As Hines rushed to help her daughter, the suspected gunman fled the scene; however, Taea’s family said they know the person who allegedly fired the shots.
“We’re familiar with him. We see him all the time he is a next-door neighbor to her,” a cousin, Ashley Elledge, told the news site.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
