In a candid interview with the Huffington Post, the singer, who is married to basketball player Grant Hill, says shows like VH1’s Basketball Wives are “misleading.”
“To be fair, a lot of those women [on the show] aren’t wives,” she says. “I think not only for the women, but I think it just paints a really bad picture about the men as well… People are like, ‘Why would you want to marry an athlete?'”
Tamia adds that many of her fellow basketball wives do good work behind the scenes. “A lot of these women are involved in charities, doing all kinds of things behind the scenes and are supportive wives,” she declares.
Despite the reigning negative stereotype of Basketball Wives, she thinks Shaunie O’Neal is a terrific business woman. “As far as business is concerned, I applaud her,” she said.
