Honey: Rise Up and Dance is the newest addition to the dance-film franchise and it looks good!
Starring Teyana Taylor and Bryshere Y. Gray, this iteration of the series follow a young girl who’s looking to get a full-ride scholarship to college through a dance competition. Despite the pushback from her more traditional mother, Syler (Taylor) pursues her passion with the help of her girlfriends and love interest, Tyrell (Gray).
The film was directed by Bille Woodruff who is behind every Honey film made —he also worked on Beauty Shop and The Perfect Match.
“I always have such a great and uplifting experience directing the films from my Honey franchise and working with Teyana Taylor in her first leading role was magical,” Woodruff told ESSENCE.
“It’s so inspiring to me when I travel the world and find how much these dance movies mean to people everywhere and the feeling of hope and overcoming obstacles they present especially to challenged youth.”
A soundtrack will accompany the film with music from Chris Brown, Future and Migos dropping March 30, 2018.
