U.S. Air Force member Tia Freeman doesn’t understand why people are raving about the birth of her son.
“I still really don’t understand what’s so shocking about my delivery story,” she tweeted on Tuesday. “Maybe it’ll set in one day.”
Freeman’s nonchalance about welcoming her son into the world downplays the amazing way he was born — in a Turkish hotel room, while she was all alone.
Freeman detailed her son’s amazing birth story on Twitter, and the whole thing reads like an episode from a TV show. According to Freeman, she didn’t even find out she was expecting until very late in her pregnancy, and she was admittedly shocked.
“I didn’t know I was pregnant for a while (already in my 3rd trimester) and before you ask the birth control I was on made it so I didn’t have a cycle every month,” she explained. “So not having a period wasn’t an indicator for me. On top of that, I didn’t really gain any weight.”
After swimming in denial for a month, Freeman kept the news of her pregnancy under wraps and decided to take a pre-planned trip to Germany to visit friends.
“I had already purchased tickets for a vacay in Germany and ya girl was not about to waste international flight money. So I was like if the boy comes on time I should be all good in the hood,” she said.
While Freeman hoped the timing would work out in her favor, her little prince had another idea in mind.
“This is a 14hr flight & there was a complimentary meal but everything had meat in it & you know I’m a vegetarian so I was like I can’t eat this,” She said, but she decided to chance it anyway.
“I don’t know if it was the salmon, the flight, or it was just my time but out of no where I start cramping up,” she continued. “I’ve still got like an hour left before we land. I just knew I had food poisoning. Y’all I was HURT”
In spite of the pain, however, Freeman never considered she was in labor. Instead, she decided to try to sleep for the remainder of the flight. When she landed, she felt even worse and as Freeman struggled to get through customs in Turkey, she finally began to wonder if she was in labor.
“I’m literally gripping the railing trying to make it through the lines. At this point, I feel like I’m about to pass out. I’m sweating. I feel like I have to vomit. I’m going through it,” she explained. “Then I’m like wait a minute bitch are you in labor?!!!”
After Googling whether or not she was in labor, Freeman decided to pull herself together and get to her hotel, because “what you’re not gonna do,” she told herself, “is give birth on the airport floor.”
When she finally made it to her hotel, Freeman decided to check YouTube to figure out how to deliver her own baby.
And it worked.
Freeman’s delivery was not only a surprise to her, but also to her family. She informed them about little Xavier days after he was born.
Freeman’s friend, Jakob Johnson, helped Freeman’s story go viral on Twitter Tuesday night, and despite her casualness about the amazing ordeal, folks are giving her props.
While her story had a happy ending, the medical bills relating to her pregnancy are high. To help, Freeman set up a GoFundMe page to help offset the cost.
