Although we watched former Sister, Sister actresses Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Tamera Mowry-Housley grow up on screen, the identical twins managed to keep their personal lives very private. Today, the 34-year-olds are the cover stars of ESSENCE magazine’s April issue and they are gearing up for the third season premiere of their reality series. But, even with much success, the sisters admit they’re still adjusting to living life in the spotlight.
“When you open up your lives and you open up your homes to the public, you have to be open to the fact that people are going to have their opinions,” Tamera told ESSENCE.com at the sixth annual Black Women in Hollywood luncheon. “But, as long as everything is right at home and right within,” she says, everything is fine.
Tia agreed. “That is one of the main reasons why my sister and I decided it was time to do a reality show,” she said. “We are in our 30s now and I find that when women are in their 30s you embrace the skin that you’re in and you are confident in who you are. I know who I am and I am fine with who I am so it doesn’t bother you as much. Now we are human so when we do see comments yes it does hurt a little, but it’s not going to mess up my day.”
Both married with children, the sisters seem to juggle career and family life flawlessly. Tia is the mother of 20-month-old son Cree and Tamera gave birth to Adam three months ago.
The Tia & Tamera stars say they don’t plan on adding baby girls to the family anytime soon. “If you would have asked me five months ago if I wanted more kids I would have been like yea,” Tia said. “But right now Cree is in the terrible-two stage so I’m at a [halt].”
However, Tamera says her husband, Fox News correspondent Adam Housley, is looking to expand their family now. “For me I am fine, but hubby wants one and soon! I am like wait a minute, wait a minute. I got to like adjust,” she said, “but we’ll see.”
Tia & Tamera will return for a new season on the Style Network this summer. But until then, be sure to pick up your April issue of ESSENCE and check out the behind-the-scenes footage of the Mowry sisters’ cover shoot.
