Many of us grew up watching actress Tisha Campbell-Martin make us laugh in classics like Martin, House Party, and School Daze. During an appearance on The Daily Helpline, the comedic actress revealed a childhood experience that’s far from a laughing matter.
While helping counsel a young woman who was raped, Campbell-Martin revealed, “I too have been a victim of the same thing. When I was three, I was raped by an older person. Now I knew as a child I did nothing wrong and that this wasn’t my fault, but I found forgiveness in the guilt that I might’ve had,” she said.”
Despite her own traumatic ordeal, the 45-year-old mom of two gave poignant advice on why it’s important to not be a victim.
“You can’t play the victim because at this point…he is winning, and you are allowing him to win,” she told the young woman. “You are making a conscious decision to harm yourself, to hurt yourself and allow this person to still have dominion over your life. You can’t do that anymore.”
