After filing for bankruptcy in 2010, Toni Braxton is still going through legal trouble.
According to TMZ, the most famous Braxton is accused of fraudulently paying her ex-husband, Kerri Lewis, $53,490 to avoid paying back creditors.
The trustee of the singer’s bankruptcy estate claims Braxton paid Lewis the money that was already “earmarked” to repay creditors.
A rep for Braxton released a statement saying, “All of the payments made to Lewis prior to Toni’s bankruptcy filing were appropriate transfers for reasonable and necessary personal and business expenses in the ordinary course of her business.”
In October of 2010, the reality TV star filed for bankruptcy for a second time, the first in 1998. Her debts ranged from $10M to $50M. She was also hit with a $396K tax lien that same year. Braxton blames putting her own money into her Vegas shows for her financial troubles. “Because of that, I had to file a business and individual bankruptcy,” said Braxton. “If I had to do it over again, I would get investors.”
Braxton is said to be cooperating with the trustee to get the matter resolved.
