If you’re hoping to hear new music from Toni Braxton, unfortunately you are out of luck. The Grammy-winning singer-turned-actress and reality star says that her singing days are over and done. Braxton opened up about her plans to retire and says she’ll now focus solely on acting.
“For what I do I have to love it. I have to feel that excitement and it’s gone,” Braxton told The Grio. “I’m just not going to do any albums anymore. Maybe touring occasionally here and there because I love performing, but not as much as I did in the past. But no new projects.”
For now, Braxton is focused on the silver screen and will make her leading role debut in Lifetime’s Twist of Faith. The film tells the story of a single mom who sings in the gospel choir and falls in love with a Jewish man.
Braxton also plans to continue appearing on her family’s reality show, Braxton Family Values, although she seems to have mixed feelings about reality TV.
“I hate to have reality star behind my name,” Braxton said. “That’s just not what I wanted to be when I grew up. For me it’s challenging because the artists that I grew up to be; me, the late great Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, we were taught to be aloof. No one needs to know about your life. But now in the age of reality you have to talk about your life and expose it.”
