What better way to open up ESSENCE Festival 2015 than with a surprise cameo by a hometown hero?
Trey Songz punctuated a sweet set at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome by bringing N’awlins rap legend Juvenile to the stage, cleverly transitioning his own “Slow Motion” into Juvie’s Soulja Slim-featured classic of the same name.
The crowd went crazy for the Cash Money alum. But what fans didn’t see was the rapper hanging out backstage, swaying to a song with the refrain “I ain’t never gonna sell dope no more” that played from a black Beats Pill speaker.
As for Trigga, the singer wooed the crowd with hits old and current running through everything from “Neighbors” to “I Can’t Help But Wait,” to “Touchin, Lovin.” Along with opener and righteous ATL rhymer Lecrae, it was the perfect appetizer for funnyman Kevin Hart on another hilarious ‘What Now’ tour stop.
