President Trump called previous comments that Meghan Markle made about him “nasty” in a recent interview.
The Duchess of Sussex had called the current president “divisive” and “misogynistic” during the 2016 presidential campaign, and he was asked about it during a recent interview with British tabloid The Sun.
“I didn’t know that. What can I say?” he said. “I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
The interview precedes Trump’s official visit to the U.K. next week, where he is expected to meet with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.
Markle gave birth to her son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor last month. She will not be meeting the president as she is still on maternity leave.
Despite his dislike of her criticism, Trump did say that he expects Markle to succeed as a member of the royal family.
“She will be very good,” he said.
