President Donald Trump denies any knowledge of the payment that his lawyer made to pornstar Stormy Daniels in order to keep her silent about their 2006 affair.
“You have to ask Michael Cohen,” Trump said to reporters aboard Air Force One. “Michael’s my attorney and you’ll have to ask Michael.”
Cohen has admitted that he paid Daniels $130,000 out of his own pocket weeks before the 2016 election. But he also claims that Trump, the Trump Organization and Trump’s campaign knew nothing about the transaction.
The payoff could constitute an illegal campaign donation to the Trump campaign, which could put the President in further legal problems.
Trump has denied ever having had a relationship with Daniels, who shared her experience with the president in an interview on 60 Minutes last month.
Daniels has also sued Trump, claiming that the confidential agreement that she signed in 2016 was invalid because the president never signed it.
