President Donald Trump is once again trying to brush aside scrutiny regarding Russian interference in the 2016 elections, taking to Twitter on Monday morning demanding that the House Judiciary Committee investigate former President Barack Obama…for some reason.
“House Judiciary has given up on the Mueller Report, sadly for them after two years and $40,000,000 spent – ZERO COLLUSION, ZERO OBSTRUCTION,” Trump tweeted bight and early Monday morning. “So they say, OK, lets look at everything else, and all of the deals that ‘Trump’ has done over his lifetime. But it doesn’t work that way.”
“I have a better idea. Look at the Obama Book Deal, or the ridiculous Netflix deal,” he added. “Then look at all the deals made by the Dems in Congress, the “Congressional Slush Fund,” and lastly the [Inspector General] Reports. Take a look at them. Those investigations would be over FAST!”
Now, obviously, since leaving the office the Obamas have racked up quite a few lucrative ventures, as Vice notes.
WHAT’S BETTER THAN ONE MILLIONAIRE? TWO.
Both Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have signed on to a multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix. They also sealed a joint book deal that is believed to be worth around $65 million. They are doing just fine.
But this was all announced post-presidency, so it is unclear why Trump is grasping at straws and calling for an investigation into those dealings.
But I guess can’t stop, won’t stop, as this is not the first time that Trump has alluded to possibly investigating the Obamas since they left the White House, as the news site reports.
“We want to find out what happened with the last Democrat president,” Trump told reporters in July. “Let’s look into Obama the way they’ve looked at me. From Day 1, they’ve looked into everything that we’ve done. They could look into the book deal that President Obama made. Let’s subpoena all of his records.”
Trump really wants to subpoena Obama’s records, yet we still haven’t seen a page of his tax returns.
But this is what the year 2019 is like.
At any rate, Trump can continue to harp “no collusion” or “no obstruction all he wants, but the House Judiciary is not quite done yet.
More specifically, maybe Trump is once again trying to deflect as the House Judiciary Committee voted last week to expand its power to investigate Trump as Democrats continue to work on building a case for impeachment, as the Hill notes.
