The family of Philando Castile is calling for President Trump step in after the heartbreaking acquittal of his killer’s trial on Friday.
“We would like to see if this could go to a federal court. Even though this went the wrong way we can still look for justice,” Castile’s uncle Tracy Castile told the New York Daily News.
Yanez killed Castile in his car last year while his fiance, Diamond Reynolds, and 4-year-old daughter were sitting in the vehicle. Reynolds then live streamed the aftermath. He was acquitted on all counts, including second-degree manslaughter and two felony counts of dangerous discharge of a firearm.
Trump has yet to make any public statements about the verdict.
“Stand up and be the leader that you say you are,” the uncle said to Trump, adding that that civil rights charges be brought to Officer Jeronimo Yanez. “Stand up and protect the United States and ‘make America great again,’ in Donald Trump’s words.”
