Maya Angelou’s family will hold a memorial service in her honor tomorrow, Saturday June 7 at Wake Forest University. First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey will deliver remarks honoring her.
You can watch the entire livestream here on ESSENCE.com, beginning at 10am ET.
Dr. Angelou’s family has also invited country singer Lee Ann Womack to sing her favorite song, “I Hope You Dance,” along with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
Wake Forest University is a special site for the poet as it is where she began teaching in 1982 after she first visited to read her work.
Angelou passed away last week at her home in Winston Salem, North Carolina at the age of 86. The news of her death brought an outpouring of love from fans and celebrities alike.
Angelou’s family is said to be planning additional events in other cities in her honor. There will be a private funeral on Sunday.
