Usher’s oldest son, Usher Raymond V, is recovering just fine according to a statement from the R&B singer. It’s the first time he’s spoken out since the tragic incident on Monday, reports MTV.
In a brief statement, Usher thanked several people for stepping in during the terrifying moment. “I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock.”
There were two men working at the house during the time of the incident who are responsible for freeing the child’s hand from the pool drain. “I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Starchurski and Ben Crews,” said Usher. “They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”
As Usher indicated in his statement, Usher V is doing better. Tameka Raymond, Usher’s ex-wife and mother of their two kids (Usher V and Naviyd Ely), tweeted that the boy is “talking and asking for food.”
Immediately following the incident, Tameka filed for temporary custody. A hearing is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m.
