Venus Williams suffered a painfully close loss Friday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
According to the NY Post, Williams was two points from victory and reaching the fourth round of the U.S. Open, a feat that would have been her first time in four years.
The game against Sara Errani was an intense back-and-forth match as Williams went from a rough first set to a 5-3 lead and finally falling behind 5-2.
Williams commented on her 52 unforced errors throughout the game saying, “…Today, my errors were out of control. That really, really hurt me. I wish I could’ve controlled that to continue a great summer.”
The tennis star hasn’t reached the fourth round of any Grand Slam since Wimbledon in 2011. Although her successful 2014 season is over for now, Williams hasn’t lost her enthusiasm.
“I’m just really proud of the effort that I’ve made and at least if I lose a match, it’s a rough flight for my opponent,” said Williams, “…the future’s looking bright.”
