A documentary titled, Floyd Norman: An Animated Life tells the story of Disney’s first Black animator.
The film is an “intimate journey through the celebrated life and career” of animator Floyd Norman, says Animation Magazine. Hired in 1956, Norman’s work includes Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmations, The Jungle Book and Pixar’s Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc.
On his 65th birthday in 2000, Disney HR force-retired him. Norman refused to leave and has “hijacked” a cubicle at Disney Publishing picking up freelance work when he can.
