Online dating seems to be dicey these days. From ghosting to unsolicited dick pics, downloading apps to find love at first click might not be appealing to all. So if you’re not in the market to download yet another app and fill out a clever “about me” section, Facebook came up with the genius idea to connect you with folks based on who you really are.
Today, Facebook Dating has launched in the United States, and it’s here to completely change the online dating game. The platform will allow you to connect with like minds based on common interests and is designed to get you from behind the computer and into some real-life dates.
Here’s are the three dopest features Facebook Dating has to offer that makes it different from other apps you might have tried.
1. You’ll find matches based on common interests, not profiles: According to Nathan Sharp, Product Manager for Facebook Dating, FBD is making it easier to find love through what you like. You’ll be matched with people you have things in common with, like interests, upcoming events and groups. “It takes the work out of creating a dating profile and gives you a more authentic look at who someone is,” says Sharp.
Facebook Dating is a non-swiping dating experience where you won’t have wait for someone to like you to shoot your shot. If you are interested, simply drop a comment on their profile or tap the “Like” button to let them know. If you aren’t interested, you can pass on them. By default, FBD won’t match you with friends. However, if you have a crush on someone you’re already friends with and want them to know, just hit “Secret Crush” and you can both add each other to your lists. By the way, don’t worry about your nosey aunties all up in your business. None of your Facebook Dating activity will be shared to your actual Facebook page.
2. No extra purchases are required: Unlike other dating apps that cost money, or upcharge for perks like “extra swipes” or a premium account, Facebook Dating is totally free. Even better, Facebook Dating is a completely opt-in experience. That means you as a regular Facebook user will no be enrolled into their dating site until you sign up yourself. You, of course, can delete your Dating profile at any time.
3. There are tons of ways to guard your safety and privacy on Facebook Dating: For those who have stayed away from online dating because of the inherent safety concerns, you may feel more at ease with Facebook’s impressive “Share Live Location” feature. This tool allows users to share the date, time and location of their upcoming date with friends they trust via Messenger. The tool will even remind friends owhen your date is coming up so they remember to check in.
And remember, this is an opt-in platform. So when you sign up, only your name and age will be carried over from your Facebook profile to Facebook Dating. You then get to choose all other information you wish to share, such as your gender identity, who you are interested in, photos, events you’re attending and more.
