After her riveting Golden Globes speech that declared time’s up on men abusing their power, people immediately began to wonder if Oprah Winfrey was tossing her hat in the ring for the 2020 U.S. presidential race.
Though she’s smacked down the rumors that she’s launching a campaign for America’s highest office on multiple occasion — -and even came right out to say she isn’t running last month — it looks like the door isn’t completely shut on Winfrey making a play for the presidency.
In a recent interview with People, Winfrey said there is only one thing that could convince her to seek the White House: God.
“I went into prayer,” she told the magazine in its latest cover story. “‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’ And I haven’t gotten that.”
It’s no secret that Winfrey is extremely spiritual and relies on God for answers, so the fact that the man upstairs hasn’t sanctioned her run means she’s not budging from her decision, no matter who tries to change her mind.
“I had people—wealthy, billionaires—calling me up and saying, ‘I can get you a billion dollars. I can run your campaign,”‘ Winfrey admitted. “That many people saying something made me think, ‘Am I at least supposed to look at the question?’ ”
As a billionaire businesswoman and philanthropist Winfrey can do just about anything she wants with her time and resources, but what fulfills her most is serving others.
“Nothing makes me happier than to see other people in their purest moments of joy,” she said. “Sometimes, honest to goodness, I’m just sitting around thinking, “What could I do to make somebody feel really good today?”
