Police have arrested 18-year-old Daniel Borden for the beating of Deandre Harris in Charlottesville, Va., the New York Daily News reports.
Harris was attacked in a parking garage that was near a police precinct.
Cellphone video of the attack shows Harris being beaten by a group of White men with metal poles and umbrellas. Harris is seen on the video, collapsing several times as the group beats him. Harris told The Root the attack left him with eight staples in his head, a broken wrist and a chipped tooth.
Although Borden is only 18 years old, he already has a history of hate. A former classmate of Borden told police Borden held a knife inches from his face, drew swastikas and called him ‘Jew Boy’ in 2012. Two years later, Borden was charged with disorderly conduct after making statements about a shooting at his Ohio school, Mason High. Borden allegedly told friends not to go to school that day.
Borden is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Ohio.
Police are also looking for 33-year-old Alex Michael Ramos in connection with the vicious beating of Harris. Additional charges are pending as the investigation into the crimes that occurred in Charlottesville continues.
