President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle sat down with Barbara Walters in an interview Friday and shared why their youngest daughter Sasha isn’t allowed to use Facebook.
While their oldest daughter Malia, 15, has limited access to the site, they don’t believe 12 year old Sasha is old enough to be on social media.
“I still am not a big believer in Facebook for young people…particularly for them, because they’re in the public eye,” said Michelle. “Some of it’s stuff they don’t need to see and be a part of…So we try to protect them from too much of the public voice.”
Sasha may not be allowed to use Facebook just yet, but one thing the Obamas say she will play a role in deciding is the family’s life once the President’s term is over in 2017. Malia will be in college at that time, but since Sasha will be a high school sophomore, the family is deciding whether to stay in Washington D.C. to allow her to finish school or to move back to Chicago.
“Sasha will have a big vote,” the president said and added that his family has “made a lot of sacrifices on behalf of my cockamamie ideas, the running for office and things.”
