The end of Scandal is upon us.
ABC is expected to announce at next week’s upfronts that the upcoming seventh season of Scandal will be the show’s last. The news was first reported by TVLine. Both Shondaland and ABC declined to comment.
While Scandal has already been renewed for a seventh season, executive producer Shonda Rhimes has previously indicated plans to keep the political fixer drama as a contained story.
“I know how long the show is going to run, and I know how it’s going to end, and I’m excited about it,” Rhimes recently told EW at Scandal‘s 100th episode party. When asked whether that would be soon, Rhimes kept mum. “I’m not commenting on that.”
In its sixth season, Scandal has been averaging 7.9 million total viewers and a 2.3 in the 18-49 demographic, making it the 11th highest rated scripted broadcast series this season.
Stay tuned for more cancellation and renewal news ahead of upfronts next week.
